Enjoy an Easter picnic, a springtime picnic, with fresh new food ideas. Forget the warm, comforting food of a winter picnic and think about lighter, brighter ingredients.
The mornings might still be a bit nippy but by lunch-time the fresh air and spring sunshine are calling you to eat out!
A picnic is the perfect way to encourage the family outside and have a crisp walk or run on the beach, in the park or countryside.
And if it's warm enough you could rest awhile on your picnic blanket and play some Easter games. Try these
printable Easter games
which are excellent value and only a click away - and of course can be used to play at any home party too.
The daffodils & tulips, buttercups & daisies, and the new green leaves & shoots give you ideas for the colour of a picnic at this time of year.
Try falafel with coriander salad in pitta bread, with lemon wedges to squeeze over them; or a pasta salad with asparagus, peas and lemon zest; or a hearty
Cornish pasty.
Think fresh, green herbs and watercress, yellow wedges of melon, white Mozzarella or salty Pecorino cheese – and, of course, eggs!
Roll out those hard-boiled eggs at an Easter picnic or organise an egg
treasure hunt
for the little ones.
Think tiny speckled quails eggs, large white duck eggs and organic pastel-coloured or brown hen’s eggs. As well as serving them hard-boiled with celery or chilli salt, you might want to offer other
egg recipes for picnics.
And don’t forget the chocolate eggs – very important!
