Who writes this picnic site?

Emily McDonald

Hello!
I'm Emily

I'm the person behind this site, in the "back office".

I knew nothing at all about website making when I started. Do you remember painting by numbers when you were little? Well, that's how I made this site. It's too complicated to go into detail about that here - or, I could say, its actually so easy you wouldn't believe me!

If you'd like to see some facts and figures about the success of the site, then click here.

Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know that I'm a real person and that there's just one of me! Yep, I'm totally unique!

Ha ha!

What I really mean is that this site is not run by a company or a group of faceless techies (you could tell that already, right?!) - just little (I'm only 5 feet tall - and half an inch!) old (well, I don't feel "old" but I'm certainly not "young" anymore!) me!

I live in the U.K. - in England - down in the south, on the Hampshire/West Sussex border.

Previously I’ve lived in Milton Keynes, Watford and London and I went to college (a long time ago) in Birmingham – moving there from Northern Ireland, where I was brought up. I've also spent time living in Spain, working in our family business.

I'm married to a wonderful man and he and I have had many adventures together. Our working lives have twisted one way and then another. Never a dull moment, as they say!

We met and worked together in the skin care and cosmetics industry, we’ve run an overseas property company, we’ve done a lot of traveling and we’ve moved house six times in the UK.

My life has been very varied and I've loved every minute of it (well there were a few rather horrid minutes (hours even) but that's life, isn't it?!)

In 2004 we sold our house in the city, and settled into a cottage here in the south of England. It’s a couple of hundred years old and used to be a cow shed! We moved here to be nearer to most of our family, including my mother.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like living in the country but I love it. For the first couple of years I kept thinking I was on holiday and would have to go back to the city soon!

My husband now works part-time (he's semi-retired) in the marina industry and I have this website to keep me occupied a few hours a week and which gives me my "independence money".

I had to give up working in an office environment or doing much telephone work, because I have a hearing problem and it seems to be getting worse every year. Yes, both my ears are broken! Probably because I listened to far too much loud music in my youth - standing beside the speakers - or maybe because of a car accident in the '80's. I'm not sure which.

We’ve seen life from many angles but, thankfully, have always been pretty healthy. All in all, we consider ourselves very lucky. countryside near Uppark

At this stage in life we have more time to enjoy our family - three grown-up children who really make us proud, as well as two gorgeous grand-daughters.

We enjoy working on our cottage and small garden, walking in the adjacent, stunning, countryside, still enjoy traveling and, of course, going on picnics!

I hope this brief resume gives you a little notion of the person in the back office here!
