Wild Swimming at Sandy Bay, River Rother
There are two acres of meadowland adjoining the River Rother open to the public courtesy of the Cowdray Estate. Cowdray Castle - also open to the public, a national monument and historic house - is within 200 yards of the picnic area.
Sandy Bay, on the Rother, is the site of the annual Rother Raft Race on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday. It also coincides with the annual art-drama-music festival , The Madhurst Festival.
Park your car in Midhurst North Street Car Park, currently free, but with charges coming in April 2011 and walk 5 minutes down the Castle Causeway to the meadow.
Alternatively, park free in Easebourne courtesy of the Cowdray Estate and walk 12 minutes to the meadow whilst enjoying panoramic views over the polo fields which play host to the Veuve Clicquot Cup in July every year.
You may also have a picnic at this prestigeous event and mix with celebs, famous people and rich polo players.
