The North of England is home to some of the most beautiful picnic spots in the UK. A picnic is a perfect way to spend time with the people you care about whether it’s an afternoon of family fun or some quality time with that special someone. Beeston Castle, Cheshire – Set in the heart of Cheshire's beautiful countryside Beeston castle is a perfect destination for a picnic. Beeston castle Known as the 'Castle of the Rock' Beeston castle is set 500 ft above the Cheshire plains on Beeston crag. Today the Castle is in ruins but the remaining walls and towers give you a great idea of what it would have looked like. Surrounded by beautiful woodlands there is plenty to explore on the climb up to the Castle, when you reach the top you are greeted with outstanding views of the Cheshire countryside.

The best spot for a picnic is the Castle green located right in the middle of the ruins. The Castle also has a small museum, visitor centre and woodland trails for children. Beeston Castle is the perfect location for a picturesque picnic.

Fell Foot Park, Windermere – Located on the South shores of Lake Windermere, Fell Foot Park is an 18 acre Victorian park owned by the National Trust. Providing stunning views of Lake Windermere the park is a breathtaking location for a picnic. There are picnic areas within the gardens and on the shore of the lake.

Fell Foot Park has a brilliant children's adventure playground and if you are feeling a little more adventurous why not hire a rowing boat for an hour or two. The park is set in one of the most beautiful areas of the North West and is a beautiful backdrop for a picnic.

Heaton Park Heaton Park, Manchester – Heaton Park is a located 4 miles north of Manchester City centre. The park is a vast beautiful space to enjoy a family picnic, complete with two play areas and a boating lake - something for all the family.

Heaton Park is also home to an animal centre with pigs, cows, ducks and many more animals and is a favourite with the children. There are also many fun activities to try in the park including orienteering, train rides and beekeeping. With so much to see and do, Heaton park is one of the best parks in Manchester for a picnic.

Crook O' Lune, Lancashire – This picnic site is situated in a local beauty spot on a bend of the river Lune. It is situated right next to the river in the heart of the Lancashire countryside and provides great views of the Lune valley. Why not take your own games to enjoy in the large open space or take a pleasant riverside walk on one of the many surrounding footpaths? The Crook O' Lune is a great place for getting back to nature and enjoying the countryside.

Formby Point, Merseyside – This National Trust Park is located on an unspoiled stretch of coastline close to Liverpool. Formby Point is a nature reserve with sand dunes and pine woods. Formby point You can enjoy a picnic in pretty much any location within the park including the dunes themselves and many of the reserve's open fields. The pine woods of Formby Point are one of the UK's red squirrel reserves and you may be lucky enough to spot a few during your picnic. During your visit you can enjoy both the beach and lovely scenic walks over the dunes and in the woodlands. Formby point is a perfect picnic location, you will find you use up a whole day searching for wildlife and enjoying the beach.
