Fruit smoothie recipes

drinking a smoothie

Get all smooth
and fruity!

Smoothie recipes are great for picnics if you need to get the recommended five portions of fruit & veg. into your (or someone else’s!)daily diet.

Or perhaps you just have a glut of soft fruit, which cannot be transported as it is.

Then just blend it with some fruit juice (apple or pineapple or whatever you have in a carton in the fridge!) or a little milk or soya milk.

Don't mix too many fruits together or you end up with a very non-descript mixture, which some might think is medicine!

One recipe, for example, (which is really good for you) is to blend a cup of blueberries, strawberries and a banana with a few splashes of apple juice.

Take to the picnic in a cold flask with ice-cubes.

watermelon juiceDrinks made from watermelons are fabulously cooling on a hot day. You can choose to make them alcoholic or not.

Try non-alcoholic watermelon, tomato and chilli cooler by blending 750 ml of chopped watermelon, 250 ml watermelon juice, 2 ripe tomatoes and 1 red or two green chillis. This will serve 4.

Take to the picnic in a flask with ice-cubes.

Or watermelon and rum cooler by blending a litre of watermelon chunks with 65 ml of sugar, 250 ml cold water and 125 ml of white rum. This should serve 6.

Take to the picnic in a flask with ice-cubes and serve over more ice if possible.
