South Africa - Cape Town - Kirstenbosch botanical gardens

I've just returned from a wonderful holiday in Cape Town, staying with friends.

One Sunday evening we enjoyed a picnic on the lawn at Kirstenbosch botanical gardens and just before sunset we were treated to a musical concert - apparently held there every Sunday evening during the summer.

With its backdrop of Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch is one of the top botancial gardens in the world and it was wonderful to stroll around part of it (it's enormous!) before spreading out our blanket, opening the picnic basket and bottle of smooth South African wine and chilling out to the music.

Wish I was back there now!

During summer months, generally from end October to end February, the cable car operates till 22h00.

It is awesome to go up to the top of the mountain and watch the sunset while having the most panoramic view of Cape Town and the surrounding beaches.

It is like a fairytale setting when the city lights start coming on and they shimmer and shine way below.

Picnic on Table mountain during the summer days are also amazing. Just beware of sunburn and dehydration.

When visiting Cape Town, please try to do a picnic on top of Table Mountain!!!
