Bench near The Spread Eagle
South Pond is close to The Spread Eagle Hotel in Midhurst, a splendid old coaching inn dating from circa 1430.
The pond is large and has a long history, details of which may be viewed on Midhurst Pages along with pictures.
The pond is bounded by a road on the east side which is the access road to the hotel. Several 1 hour only parking slots adjoin The Spread Eagle. Comestibles Deli is 50 yards up the road in the Old Town and provides picnics to order.
There is a large car park at The Grange which overlooks the pond on its north western side. It's a short walk from the car park to several benches which edge the pond. There is also a grassy area on the south where you can sit and spread yourself out.
South Pond is a totally delightful spot and an ideal picnic place for people breaking their journey who don't want to spend too much time but need to stretch their legs.
Comestibles Deli. Speak to Brendon Davies on 01730 813400 to order a picnic. Details are on his website.
