I hope you’ll have fun strolling or scrolling through the site. You might like to start at
picnic food
, which will lead you onto lots of summer picnic recipes. You’ll also find tips for eating in the sun when you plan your
picnic menu.
My friend Lise, over in Canada has a great site of easy recipes so I suggest you check out her easy summer recipes. Food tastes better in the open air and with congenial company – so if you make a mistake with a recipe, I can bet that it’s unlikely anyone will notice! However, I think it’s worth a reminder that you should keep your picnic fare simple, but with robust flavours – and that people tend to have larger appetites outdoors.
Picnics are light-hearted, fun-packed affairs and can be as interesting to prepare as they are to eat. So aim for something a little bit more imaginative and memorable than a cheese sandwich and enjoy the preparation as much as the picnic itself. You have to think about picnic safety even more in the hot summer months and use your common sense too! Don’t take foods that will melt easily or spoil in the heat. Use a cooler for lots of
picnic drinks
as well as food and keep them in the shade at the picnic site if possible. Be careful not to let anyone become dehydrated in the sun. Have plenty of water available and maybe some
watermelon recipes
or how about trying out some
cold soup recipes?
Make your summer picnic list and don’t forget essentials like sun protection cream, sunshades and insect repellent. If you have some talcum powder in the bathroom cabinet, take it along. Sprinkled around the edge of your picnic blanket, it will keep ants away.
So choose some summer picnic recipes and enjoy preparing them. Then grab an armful of cushions, a blanket or two and a big parasol (make this an umbrella if in the UK!) and enjoy an idyllic picnic under a big blue sky.
